New Playground dedicated to Families of

Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, October 16, 2005

Lutheran Church of the Resurrection’s new children's playground was dedicated to
“all the Families of LCR” on Sunday, October 16. Pastor Jack Horner lead a brief dedication service and ribbon cutting ceremony at 10:00am in the playground area behind the church. Click here to see images of the day's events!

A labor of love, the new playground began as a dream realized by all those who teach and care for the children of LCR. In the spring of 2003, Resurrection had close to
100 children registered in its Sunday School program. The preschool program, Little Blessings Children's Center, also had an active enrollment. The time was right to set sights on a new, well-built and dynamic outdoor play area for the children.

Sunday School families supported the idea of new playground equipment by actively responding to a “Pennies From Heaven” coin drive. This donation was graciously matched by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. The Resurrection ladies of WELCA (Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America), supported this project with funds raised from their annual Tag Sale.

In August 2005, the project adopted a grander vision. Rather than adding only one
new piece of playground equipment, the committee considered creating an entirely
new outdoor play space for all children and families at Resurrection to enjoy. The
church Council extended its support of this project by granting the remainder of the funds necessary to build a new playground.

Resurrection members, Mario Muccioli and Cathleen Oliveto were instrumental in guiding this project to completion. The play area is surrounded on all sides by fencing with child-proof gates. Plants and shrubs have been added to enhance the beauty of this space. Benches have been added so parents will have a place to rest and chat with friends while watching their children at play.
