WELCA "best wishes" baskets make big impact
One of WELCA’s key focuses has been it’s ongoing women-to-women projects. Our "Best Wishes" basket project has made a difference in the lives of some women who need a helping hand. Through the generous donation of items from our congregation members, we have been able to provide baskets for women who are starting their lives anew and moving out of the Northern Westchester Shelter (NWS), which houses approximately 60 battered and/or abused women each year. These baskets, which are filled with items not typically donated to the Shelter, each carry a note of best wishes from WELCA and LCR. We ask you to please consider donating one or more of the
items below.

BASKET DONATIONS: makeup and makeup bags, makeup remover, fancy coffees, teas and mugs, seasonings (salt, pepper, garlic powder/salt, onion power, mince flakes), chocolate or candy, fancy soaps and soap dishes, house phones (slim line phones can be purchased at Target for $8.99), stationary, bubble bath, shower gels, kitchen towels, pot holders and mitts, and other personal items. Also, donations of large baskets are, of course, always welcome!
The NWS residence houses both women who are Moms, and women who do not have any children. In addition to the Best Wishes Baskets, we are committed to providing some staples that are needed in the residential home.
SHELTER DONATIONS: hand sanitizers, feminine hygiene products, Dreft and other laundry detergents, coloring books, crayons, connect-the-dot books, and hand paints. Please also consider donating any of these items. As traditional support
dollars have dwindled, the residence relies increasingly
on its community neighbors to help out.
All donated items may be placed in WELCA's donation box in the ambulatory at our church. Each month, WELCA creates baskets and delivers them and other shelter items to the NWS’s administrative offices.

We are also seeking other organizations to partner with us so that each women leaving the Shelter receives a basket. If you have an organization you can suggest, please let us know. We thank you in advance for your generous support of this and other ongoing WELCA projects.
