WELCA reaches out to moms in need

On May 15, 2005 our Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (WELCA) group gathered in the church lounge for an important project that will have great impact on needy mothers they will never meet. Through Lutheran World Relief (LWR), WELCA sponsored a fun "baby shower" event to assemble layette packages for newborn babies of moms in need in impoverished countries.

In refugee camps, hospitals, and villages around the world, gifts of baby layettes convey a warm welcome to mothers and newborns who have so very little. WELCA packaged 57 layettes and shipped them to LWR in Maryland where they will sent in larger shipments be dis tributed to the moms who need them. Total number of items: 912 pieces of clothing, blankets, diapers, soap and diaper pins. WOW! What a tremendous outpouring of love from the members of our congregation to women around the world! We want to thank our friends at Thrivent who funded part of the event to make up for items not donated.
