WELCA's Spring 2006 Project

WELCA Linens and
Bath Shower benefits
PEPY Ride &
women's shelter

The women of WELCA hosted a linens and bath shower with a high tea in our church lounge for all LCR women and friends on May 7, 2006. Seventeen women attended the events which featured gourmet sandwiches and fancy desserts. The congregants and their friends donated numerous linens and bath gifts for the residents of the Northern Westchester Shelter: towel sets, sheet sets, comforters, bath rugs, and much more. Linens 'N Things very generously donated 52 soft fleece throws. What a wonderful and generous donation and addition to the Shower!

The "good things raffle" and silent auction held on April 30 and May 7, 2006 yielded $860.00. Thrivent is matching the first $400.00. WELCA donated $630.00 to the Northern Westchester Shelter, which houses abused women and their children and assists them with finding housing when they exit the shelter. WELCA also donated $630.00 to The PEPY Ride, an organization which is working to build schools in Cambodia. Patricia Papy, the mom of Daniela Papy, teamleader for The PEPY Ride, graced us with her presence at the Shower. The Pepy Riders are currently building onto an orphanage in Cambodia so that as the children reach the age of 16 and may no longer live in the orphanage, they have a residence. Our prayers for continued good works and safe travels are with the PEPY Riders.

The linens and bath shower event was dedicated to the memory of Marjorie Jacob and Claire Batey--two beloved members of our congregation whom we lost in May 2006.
