Rock Climbing Recap, Feb. '07

This past February, the Youth Ministry had the unique experience of learning what it feels like to be suspended 50 ft above the ground. Now this may sound terrifying, but just ask the youth, we all had loads of fun on our Indoor Rock Climbing Expedition. After meeting at the church, we all carpooled to The Cliffs at Valhalla -- an indoor rock climbing facility with courses that were fun for all ages. It didn’t matter whether the youth were experienced or if it was their first time, they each got a chance to climb the wall that suited them best. In the middle of the day we took a break for lunch, eating at the local chicken wing restaurant, but once we got back it was right back into action. Everyone had a great time, including the adults, and some kids even overcame their fear of heights. After a couple of hours everyone was exhausted and we all returned to the church where the youth were picked up. I would like to thank everyone who came, especially the chaperones that drove both ways and watched over us as we climbed. Your help is truly appreciated. It was a great day and I look forward to our next event.

Youth Bowling Bash, Dec. '06

Hi everyone, just a short recap of the last Youth Ministry event before the break. On Saturday, December 16 the youth had the opportunity to experience fun and fellowship when we bowled for a day at Cortlandt Lanes. The youth group met promptly at the church from where we all carpooled to the bowling alley. Once at the lanes, the youth had a chance to hang out, relax, socialize, and, of course, bowl! Even some of the adults got in on the action. I believe the high score of the day was from Mr. Hughes (aka Papa H), but he did receive some fierce competition from Rookie Mr. Sabanosh. After eating a quick snack and bowling to their hearts’ content, the youth returned to the church where they were picked up by their parents. All in all, the event was extremely successful, and most of all--fun. Thank you very much to all who participated and to everyone who helped out (especially Mr. Hughes, Mr. Sabanosh, Mr. Hurowitz, and Mr. Kelly; it wouldn’t have been possible without you.) Thanks again and I hope to see you all at upcoming youth events.

St. Nick Nite, Dec. '06

On Sunday December 3, 2006 the youth had the pleasure of hosting the annual St. Nick Nite, a night dedicated to teaching the children of the congregation the true meaning of Christmas. With the help of Sabeen on the violin, the kids (and grown-ups too) sang Christmas carols to get into the holiday spirit. Next, with the help of the youth, the children were told a story that incorporated all the Christmas symbols, and taught the kids what each symbol represents. Following this, the children received a visit from St. Nick himself, who reminded them that “Jesus is the Reason for the Season!” But it wasn’t finished yet. There was still one more surprise for the kids…when they were dismissed into the hallways, the kids found their shoes (which they had taken off when they arrived) were filled with all sorts of treats and goodies. The evening ended in the lounge where there was refreshments and fellowship. The entire event was a huge success, and thank you to everyone that helped out. And as Christmas draws closer each and every day just remember that JESUS IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON!!!

Youth Lock-in, Oct. '06

First off, for everyone who doesn’t know, on October 27, 2006 the LCR Youth Ministry held a Lock-in—it’s an event where all the youth spend the night at the church, making it the first Youth Ministry event of the fall. The Lock-in allowed all the kids to just relax, unwind, and have fun. On Friday night, when the kids showed up with sleeping bags in hand, there was a variety of activities for the youth to participate in, including meet and greet games, manhunt, and even a round of Jeopardy. The kids also got a chance to just hang out with their friends, and talk about school, sports, etc. During dinner, which was followed by ice cream sundaes, the youth discussed possibilities of upcoming events and how to get the word out. When things started winding down, all the youth moved into the Sanctuary and got themselves settled in for the night, after which we all watched a movie on the big screen. Everyone slept soundly (under the watchful eye of Mr. Codino) and the next morning it was already time for pickup. So thank you to everyone who came--and all those who helped out as well (especially Mrs. Horner, Mr. Codino, and Ms. Atwell--our Alex Trebek). It was a lot of fun! Thanks again.
